What is it like to be Psychic? - 17th November 2011

Film and TV have done a pretty good job of portraying psychics as troubled souls, burdened by a gift that they never wanted or asked for in the first place. The truth is that most psychics have not only learned to deal with their powers, but eventually end up embracing them when they realise that what they have been gifted is a unique ability to help their fellow human beings.

Most people probably believe that the average psychic stays tucked up in home, keeping themselves out of reach of sights, sounds and touches that could spark off another bout of tortured revelations, but for the most part they are out and about, and around you on a daily basis, performing all the mundane tasks that each of us takes for granted. Psychics are mums and dads, brothers and sisters, and are just like everyone else, except for the fact that they can connect on a level that is beyond most of us. Most psychics will tell you that the most difficult time they experienced was when they first discovered their abilities and realized that, on some level, they were different from everyone else, which can be a little hard to take in the beginning. Many psychics, especially those who discover and recognize their abilities at a young age, learn how to control the flow of information they receive, and turn it down to a volume that is acceptable enough to allow them to go about their lives on a daily basis, yet be able to turn it back up when the information is needed. It's really no different that starting in a new job or profession, where you are bombarded with info at the start, and even when you feel like you are going to drown under the weight of all that knowledge, you find a way to make it work for you.

Once that flow of information is under control, perhaps the most difficult thing that a psychic has to deal with is the negative reaction from people who, for one reason or another, seem unable, or unwilling, to accept that psychic ability is real. It may be fear, or a faith issue, that prevents them from embracing the idea. There are always going to be those people who are skeptical, and most psychics understand that it's just as important to treat those people in the same way that they do those who gleefully ask, "what's it like to be psychic." There really is no clear answer to that question, as psychic ability is as much a part of the daily routine as making dinner and doing the washing. You may as well ask someone what it's like to be smart or beautiful, as those are things that can't be changed and are just accepted by those who possess those traits. The true gift of being psychic is the ability to help others, whilst still maintaining a normal lifestyle each and every day.
